Our Purpose

Why We Exist

Every person has a purpose.  There is a reason you exist.  Your life is significant and meaningful.

The sad reality is that most people don’t know why they were put on this earth.  We live our lives searching for meaning and fulfillment.  The world is quick to promise us cheap thrills and we are often quick to accept.  Some people live their whole life following a dream that will never satisfy the true longing of their heart.  Like a mirage in the desert, we chase goals and ambitions that seem to never materialize.  Even when they do they are not as satisfying as we imagined they would be.

There is hope.

God doesn’t expect us to live in confusion.  Therefore, he gave us clear instructions on how to live the life He intended.  These instructions are found in the Bible.  When we pursue God’s purpose for our lives then, and only then, do we begin to satisfy the longing of our hearts.

There’s more good news.

The basic purpose of every human life is made simple and clear for everyone to understand.   Jesus mentions it several times.  However, for simplicity’s sake, we will reference the Gospel of Mark, chapter 12, verses 30 & 31.

The whole Bible points back to these two basic commands.  The purpose of our existence.

1. Love God
2. Love people

The word love is thrown around a lot these days.  Yet, if we’re honest, we don’t love like God expects us to love.  Our love is sometimes selfish, unforgiving, and conditional.  We want to love but we aren’t always good at it.  We all need help in the love department.  Thankfully, God is willing to help us learn how to love.  He does this in two ways.

First, we learn God’s love by spending time with Him.  We worship Him and seek Him through prayer.  We learn God’s love through experiencing His love for us on a personal level.

Second, we learn God’s love by studying the Bible.  Some refer to the Bible as God’s love letter to mankind.  The more we understand and memorize the Bible the more we are equipped to live out God’s purpose for our lives.

Once we begin to learn God’s love then we go about living God’s love.

We live God’s love in two ways.

First, we live God’s love by developing close relationships with other Christians.  Over time we learn to trust one another and forgive one another.  We learn to serve one another and care for one another.  We become a family.

Second, we live God’s love by serving others.  We find opportunities to use our unique talents and gifts to spread God’s love to our community and beyond.

God is a God of love.  You are created in His image.  You were made to reflect His love.  It is why you live and breathe.

You will never find meaning until you find God’s love.

This is your purpose.

This is our purpose.

As a church, we center every activity, every decision, around these two basic principles.

Here’s an example.

LEARN
During our Sunday morning worship services, we learn God’s love in two ways.  First, we will learn His love through worship.  Worship brings us closer to God and that closeness allows us to experience or feel His love.  Our worship is simple and Christ-honoring.

Second, we learn God’s love by focusing on His Word.  The Bible is life’s greatest resource.  Through the study of Scripture, we learn about God’s character and His promises to us.  To fall in love with God is to fall in love with the Bible.

LIVE
Similarly, we will live God’s love in two ways.  First, we will live God’s love to our church family.  Jesus teaches that a church must have love for one another.  Each time we meet we must seek to develop closeness and trust.  This takes time, energy, forgiveness, and compassion.  Our Sunday services include as many opportunities as possible to build our relationships.

Lastly, we live God’s love by serving.  We hope to provide numerous opportunities for each church member to get involved in the services and ministries.  Our goal is not to push people but rather to encourage everyone to take ownership in the work of the church.

These are simple examples meant to illustrate a profound purpose and mission.

This mission will encompass every aspect of our lives.

This is why we exist.

We invite you to join us.
